So Many Opportunities to Glorify Christ in 2010!!

New Testament Survey and Theology.

I am so excited to be going book by book through the New Testament on Sunday nights at 6 :00PM.  We are meeting at Aaron Mosteller’s house (3189 North Hwy 14) and Brian and Sarah are graciously feeding us after our study.   We are going through each book of the New Testament focusing on primary information for starters and practical advice for study.  We read a lot of Scripture and it designed for those who really want to understand God’s Word better and apply it to everyday life.

Silver Ring Thing.

The Silver Ring Thing is from 7PM- 9PM on Friday, March 5. (WE WILL LEAVE THE CHURCH AT 6:15PM FROM THE OZONE PARKING LOT).  And the cost is only $5 (for each youth and each parent if they chose to go) which I need by Wednesday, February 24. (At Marathon Church in Greenville) After the Silver Ring Thing we will grab a bite to eat so bring about $10 for a meal after the program.  We should be back around 10:30PM.

What is the Silver Ring Thing?  I am glad you asked.  The Silver Ring Thing is a 2 hour stage performance which incorporates high energy music, special effects, fast-paced video, personal testimonies, and comedy all delivered in a concert-style approach with which teenagers can respond and relate. The program also presents an evangelistic message focused on forgiveness and new beginnings with an opportunity to embrace a “second virginity.” Students who make a commitment to abstinence may purchase a silver ring as a symbol and reminder of their decision. (For only $20 purchased at the event.) After the event, students who make this commitment are followed-up by SRT staff with weekly emails that encourage and equip these students in their commitment.

PARENTS, YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THIS AS WELL.  YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN SEPARATE SESSION WHILE THE YOUTH ARE IN THEIR SESSSION.  DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!!!!!!

Spring Break Mission Trip.

Spring Break Mission Trip is right around the corner.  (March 31-April 3)It will be in Garden City, SC and the cost is only $25 due Wednesday, March 17.

Centrifuge

We still have spots open for Centrifuge at Ridgecrest the week of June 14-19.  The total cost is $250 for the week but I just need a $50 deposit as soon a possible to secure your spot.  This is the best discipleship based camp anywhere.

PowerPlant

We also have spots open for PowerPlant in Nashville, TN on July 5-10.  The total cost for this missions experience is $225 and again a $50 deposit is need ASAP.  This is an inner city missions experience that will allow us to help new church plants in Nashville reach out to those in the inner city of Nashville.

Opperation Christmas Child

For the last several years, our youth have had a tradition on the Thanksgiving Eve.  We load up in our vans and make the hour and a half trip to Charlotte, NC to help Samaritan’s Purse pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  It is such a joy to see our youth and adults work side by side in an attempt to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through this amazing ministry.  The gifts are small but they aid the missionaries tremendously as they hand them out and share the love of Christ.

This year our boxes went to Ecuador, North Africa, Georgia (The country, not the home of the bulldawgs), and a Muslim country that could not be named due to their hostility towards Christians.

Every year we go I am reminded of Romans 12:1-2 which says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

I use to think that this was just a small sacrifice.  However, God has reminded me that any sacrifice made for Jesus could have a more profound effect on the Kingdom than we could ever hope, dream or imagine.

Opperation Christmas Child

Opperation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child in Charlotte, NC

We will be making our way to Charlotte, NC to, once again, help with Operation Christmas Child.  On Wednesday, November 25 we will leave the Ozone parking lot at 8AM to help pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child for loading on trucks to be shipped all around the world.  Bring CASH ($5-$10) for lunch and we will return around 5-6PM.  Sign up with Chet by Wednesday, November 18.

Shopping for Romanian Operation Christmas Child

Sarah Cowan is heading to Romania in December to do some mission work with fellow Centrifuge staffers.  They will be ministering to the Roma People, whom we have been praying for at Fuge and some of us got to work with in Athens, Greece.  One of the things they will be doing is helping hand out Operation Christians Child boxes; however, the teenagers never get any presents.  Therefore, the team from Centrifuge wants to help get them things the teenagers need for Christmas like hats, gloves, scarves, etc.  We will be going to Wal-Mart on Wednesday, December 2 during O-zone.  We will leave at 7PM (So be there at 6:45 PM) and get back around 8PM.  The youth only need to bring around $5-$10 to shop with.  Sarah will be taking pictures and some movie footage of the kids opening your presents and you get to see your gifts being given to the Roma children!!  I think that is really cool!!

Christmas Party Version 2.0

Due to the rock slide I-40 we will not be going to Dollywood.  It would add at least 2 hours of driving time and we would be on the road too long for a one day event.  Instead we are going to eat at Larendas and play indoor miniature golf in Greenville.  The cost is only $10 and that money is due Wednesday, December 2.

            Saturday, December 12

5:30 PM           Meet at the Ozone Parking Lot

            6 PM – 7PM    Eat at Larendas

            7:30 PM           Play miniature golf

9:30- 10PM     Pick up youth at church

Centrifuge 2010

Hold your spot with a $50 Deposit DUE BY DECEMBER 2

(Remainder of $200 due by April 25)

What is PowerPlant?

We have been blessed to have such a mission minded church.  World Changers has been a missions opportunity that we have pursued for a long time.  Last year we shifted gears a little bit and let Mission Serve help us in our mission endeavors for the summer.  This year we shift again.  Why?  My desire is to see you have a well rounded missions experience in your years as a part of Fairview Baptist Church.  World Changers is great with physical labor and earning the right to share the Gospel through selflessly serving others.  However, you can stay on a roof and never really confront anyone about their need for Jesus.  This year we want to give you an opportunity to be on the ground floor of missions with PowerPlant.

PowerPlant is a ministry of the North American Mission Board designed to engage students in church planting and evangelism. The first PowerPlant project was in 2003, and it has been growing since then. PowerPlant participants will learn church planting principles and evangelism skills each morning, then have a chance to engage personally through assigned ministry team activities in the afternoon and evening. Students and adults will begin to see that the church is not about buildings . . . it’s about people! And there are lots of people in North America who need Christ!

I am talking with PowerPlant about allowing us to work with Mosaic Church in Nashville, TN.  The lead pastor of Mosaic is Gary Morgan.  He was our camp pastor at Centrifuge when we were at North Greenville University and last year at Union University.  He is truly a man that has a heart for lost people and his church is reaching the inner city of Nashville.  I think it would be great since we were spiritual fed by Gary for 2 years that help serve him in reaching Nashville with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.   If you are looking for a missional challenge that is very intentional in reaching those who do not yet know Jesus Christ, then PowerPlant is for you!!

Prayer Breakfast and See You At The Pole

We had an amazing morning at our prayer breakfast and See You at the Pole.  Middle school and high school students showed up in droves to show the Bride of Christ united in the mission to seek those unsurrendered to Christ and to give Jesus Christ maximum glory!!!  It is always such a blessing to see students step up and lead in the mandate to “go and make disciples.”  See You At The Pole started with a large time of group prayer.  They then got in smaller groups to prayer for friends and the school.  After that they came together again to lift up praises to Christ in song and the reading of Scripture.  Finally they closed out their prayer time with one more plea to God to guide them as they accept the call to be missionaries on their campus.   I was very impressed and moved by their love for each other, their burden for their campus, and their show of solidarity and love for Jesus!!

Old Testament Survey And Parent Meeting

old-testament[1]You can’t neglect the Old Testament and still have a full picture of the revelation of God.  Don’t forget we will continue to explore the Old Testament on Sunday nights at 6PM at Johnson Hughes’ house.  (Email me for directions at chet@fairviewgreer.net).  This Sunday we are looking at Genesis through Deuteronomy.  Come ready to engage your heart and mind and see how the Old Testament brings your understanding of God and His perfect plan ALIVE!!

Parents don’t forget we have a special meeting in Ozone on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 7PM.  We will discuss what our goal is as a youth ministry (To make disciples, hint, hint) and how we can be a part of the disciple making process at home in our church.  We will also discuss our camps, retreats, and mission opportunities for the rest of 2009 and for 2010.

This Week at Ozone!

Two things to remember for this week:kickball

1. We are playing Kickball at Fairview Park immediately after Ozone on Wednesday for Ozone Xtra.  Bring sneakers and your game face!

2. A Message from Stephanie Cowan:   Paula Strickland is a recent “ex-youth” who is now serving as a Youth With a Mission in Australia for 6 months.  Instead of trying to send her a “goodie box” we felt it would be better stewardship of our money to simply send her a love offering so she can buy what she needs since she has to come up with her own financial support.  Please bring at least $1 THIS Sunday, August 16 to Sunday School.  This is a great way to be a part of missions while staying in Greer!

Hope to see you all at Ozone tomorrow night at 7 PM.  Remember to stay for Kickball.

Mission Serve 2009

Mission Serve 2009

Mission Serve 2009

If I could sum up our Mission Serve experience in one word it would be transparency.  A transparency that come from obedience and brokenness and getting real with who you are and where Christ wants you.  We saw a lot of homes get refurbished and the quality of this earthly life was greatly improved because of the efforts of all of those at Mission Serve.  However, we also saw the realization of this earth not being our final home and the quality of their eternal spiritual life dramatically improve as well.

Jesus says in John 14:21, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.  and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest (or reveal) myself to him.” (ESV)  We had a week of prolonged obedience that soften our hearts and allowed Jesus to reveal Himself to us.  Obedience does that.  Obedience allows for us to hear more intimately the voice of God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit.  Some of our students saw this more vividly last week in Norfolk, VA than they have in any other time of their life.

We are also blessed to see Elliott Hawkins sense a call into ministry and surrender to that call.  This makes a total of 5 young men who have surrendered to a call into ministry this summer.  We are truly blessed, but please pray for these young men.  Elliott, Eric, Kyle, Nathan and Andrew all have a target on their back now and the enemy is going to be gunning for them harder now than ever.

I was also very proud of Jeff Witt.  Jeff surrendered to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was in the third grade but never followed in Believer’s baptism.  Jeff made that decision this week as well and on Sunday, August 2, 2009 Jeff will be baptized.

Finally, I want to recognize our adults who ministered along side our students at Mission Serve.  Wanda, Sarah, Zach, Jeff, Mark, Randall, and Scott were all amazing by leading by example.  They loved our youth and were there for them every step of the way.  They supported me greatly and I was humbled by their servant hearts.  But most importantly they loved Jesus in word and deed last week.  Our students are blessed to have Adults who love them and our God as much as they do.

Man Monday

manmonday
Here is a Glimpse of Man Monday.
Man Monday cannot be explained, but if someone tried to explain it, they might say,
“Man Monday is beast.  We go on epic journeys to places made of rock.”
For more information on Man Monday, ask a man who has participated in Man Monday.
You should even ask to hear the Man Monday theme song.
If all else fails, contact Zach or Chet to inquire about the location of the next Man Monday.
Come experience it for yourself.
