OUR IDENTITY

Why Θ Zone?

  • The symbol “Θ” is from the Greek language and stands for Theta, which is also the term used for “God”.  So in essence we have named our group “the God Zone”.  This term, Θzone, also mirrors our church’s imagery of this Christian life being a “great adventure”.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER IS ABOVE THE EARTH AS GOD IS ABOVE US.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER SURROUNDS THE EARTH AS GOD SURROUNDS HIS PEOPLE.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER PROTECTS US AND SO DOES GOD.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER PROVIDES A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE AND SO DOES GOD.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER CREATES WARMTH AND WE ENJOY THE WARMTH OF GOD’S LOVE.
  • THE ΘZONE LAYER IS A FILTER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT FILTERS WHAT NEEDS TO COME INTO OUR HEART AND MINDS.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

O3 =chemical formula of Ozone.

OUT POST = Our Student Ministry (“if my people, who are called by my name,”)

OUT POURING (From us and God)= from us = repentance, obedience and seeking (“will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,”)  From God = the Holy Spirit (“then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin”) for protection and provision!

OUT REACH = We are chosen by God to proclaim this message of hope and love from Christ. (“Heal their land.”) We get the privilege of telling others about Christ and His plan for abundance in their lives.

OUR MISSION

A purpose-driven youth ministry is built around five purposes found in two popular passages, the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.  While the five purposes are described in several New Testament verses, these two passages, relating words of Jesus, summarize all the others.

The Great Commandment:  “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matt. 22:37-40)

The Great Commission:  “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt. 28:19-20)

The five purposes are found in these two passages:

  1. Worship: ”Love the Lord your God with all your heart”
  2. Ministry: “Love your neighbor as yourself”
  3. Evangelism: “Go and make disciples”
  4. Fellowship: “Baptizing them”
  5. Discipleship: “Teaching them to obey”
